Testing Peel-and-Stick Samples

Why do i need to test a sampe before making a larger purchase of wallpaper?

Testing a sample before committing to a full purchase allows you to see how the wallpaper’s color, texture, and design work in your actual space.

Lighting, wall texture, and surrounding decor can all affect the final look. By testing a sample, you can also check how seams will appear, ensuring you’re happy with the overall aesthetic.

This helps avoid surprises and ensures you're confident in your choice before ordering a larger quantity.

How do I test a sample of peel-and-stick wallpaper?

Here are some tips on how to best test your samples:

You can either apply the peel-and-stick sample directly to the wall or tape the sample in place with painters tape.

To test the peel & stick sample by adhering it directly to the wall, we recommend using a wallpaper primer on your test area first to protect the paint underneath. Slowly peel back the backing paper, smoothing downwards as you stick and slowly releasing more of the backing paper. To safely remove the sample when testing is over, gently and slowly peel it off from the edge at a 45 degree angle. Use a hairdryer to loosen the adhesive if you encounter stubborn spots.

To test the peel & stick sample without adhering it to the wall, use pieces of painters tape on each corner of the sample and stick it to the wall for a quick preview.

Note: Our wallpaper is shipped rolled. To flatten out your samples, remove them from the packaging and place them flat for 2 - 6 hours. Use weighted items like books in the corners to help them return to their original shape.

How do i test the appearance of seams on a peel-and-stick sample?

The appearance of seams can vary based on the wallpaper color, pattern, your personal preference and the style you're aiming for.

To get a sense of how the seams will look, place two samples side by side on a smooth surface. If you only have one sample, cut it in half and align the edges.

Testing this on your wall or a similar flat surface allows you to see how the seams blend with your lighting and decor.

Some people prefer more visible seams, while others like a more seamless look—it all depends on your style!

Measuring-Up & Ordering Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

How do I measure my walls?

Here are some tips on how to best measure your walls accurately:

Exclude crown molding and baseboards from the wall height calculation to prevent unnecessary excess wallpaper.

Measure the wall height on both sides of the wall to account for potential slight variations. Utilize the longest measurement to prevent gaps between the ceiling and the wallpaper.

Measure the wall width at both the top and bottom, accounting for potential slight variations.

Include doors, windows, or any other obstacles in the measured area to obtain comprehensive dimensions for ordering with accuracy.

Feel free to Contact our Customer Care Team if you need any help figuring it out!

How much wallpaper do I need?

Our peel-and-stick wallpaper measures 19 inches in width and is available in varying lengths to accommodate a number of common wall heights, including 4ft (48"), 6ft (72"), 8ft (96"), 9ft (108"), 10ft (120") and 12ft (144").

To determine the required amount of wallpaper, measure the width and height of each wall you intend to wallpaper. As some walls are uneven, we recommend measuring both at the top and bottom of your walls for total width and at both vertical ends of your wall for height - then use the longest and widest measurements taken.

We recommend you include 10% extra in your final measurements as a failsafe.

Once you have the height measurement, compare it with the panel lengths we offer and round up to the nearest foot. For example, if your wall is 8ft (96") for example, simply select the 9ft panel length.

Once you have the total width measurement in inches, simply divide it by 19" in order to get the number if panels you require. Round up to the next panel if needed. For example, if your total wall width measures 120", calculate 120 divided by 19, which equals 6.31. As this isn't a whole number, round up to 7. So a total of 7 panels are required.

Installing Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

Do I need to prep my walls before installing peel-and-stick wallpaper?

YES! We always recommend a simple prep by applying a wallpaper primer to your walls before installing our wallpaper. This helps to ensure that the surface underneath is a suitable base for our wallpaper and greatly reduces the risk of any damage to paint and less solid wall surfaces when it's time for removal.

There are a few factors to consider before installing our wallpaper directly onto walls without prep:

  1. Surface Texture and Condition:Ensure the wall surface is smooth and free of imperfections. Peel-and-stick wallpaper adheres best to smooth surfaces, so if your wall has a rough texture or imperfections, priming might be necessary to create a more even base.
  2. Cleanliness:The wall should be clean and free from dust, grease, and other contaminants. Any dirt or residue on the wall can hinder the adhesive's ability to bond properly.
  3. Paint Type:Consider the type of paint on the wall. If the wall is painted with a gloss or semi-gloss finish, the wallpaper adhesive may have difficulty sticking. Matte or satin finishes tend to work better.
  4. Wall Material:Different wall materials may require different approaches. While peel-and-stick wallpaper generally adheres well to smooth drywall, it might struggle with certain surfaces like heavily textured walls, brick, or wood paneling.
  5. Long-Term Goals:Consider how long you plan to keep the peel-and-stick wallpaper in place. If it's a short-term solution or if you anticipate changing it frequently, the need for priming may be less critical.

On what surfaces can I install peel-and-stick wallpaper?

Because of the strong adhesive properties of our premium textile peel-and-stick wallpaper, it is suitable for use on a wide range of surfaces.

As well as on walls, our wallpaper has also been tested for great results on wood furniture, concrete, cabinets, glass, tiles, refrigerators, metallic surfaces and smaller craft projects such as dolls houses.

We recommend that surfaces are flat and smooth so that the high-quality finish of the wallpaper isn’t affected, however our wallpaper has been successfully tested on slightly textured walls.

Can I put Huggleberry Hill’s wallpaper over existing wallpaper?

Adequate surface preparation is essential to achieve a seamless application and ensure the durability of the new wallpaper.

Check out our dedicated blog article on this topic for essential considerations before opting to wallpaper over your current one.

Can peel-and-stick wallpaper be installed in the bathroom and kitchen?

Yes! Our peel-and-stick textile wallpaper has a high level of adhesion which means it is suitable for use in dry or humid environments.

It can be used as a backsplash, provided that it isn’t installed on areas of direct heat or flame, such as behind the stove.

What tools do I need to install peel-and-stick wallpaper?

You can install our peel-and-stick wallpaper with a few simple tools:

Plumb line or level

Utility knife

Tape measure

Scissors

Smoothing tool or dry sponge

Do I have to overlap panels?

Not at all! Easy installation is the name of our game!

Due to the composition of our peel-and-stick textile wallpaper, zero shrinkage occurs over time, which means no overlap is needed.

Our wallpapers are also designed as a Straight Match, which allows each panel to be butted up to the next one with an exact parallel match, meaning less waste too.

How do I install peel-and-stick wallpaper?

For detailed instructions, visit our Installation and Care Guide

Here's a brief overview of the installation process:

Unroll the wallpaper for an hour or two to facilitate installation and help it stay flat.

Locate a level spot on your wall to ensure straight alignment. If covering a single accent wall, start in the centre of the wall.

Gently and slowly peel the wallpaper from the backing, peeling about 10 inches from the top to start.

Apply the wallpaper to the level spot on the wall, pressing and smoothing it slowly from the top with a smoothing tool or dry sponge. Peel the backing gradually in 10-inch increments, smoothing as you go to adhere it to the wall.

Apply the second panel. As our peel-and-stick textile doesn't shrink over time, place the second panel flush with the edge of the first panel without overlapping.

Repeat steps 1-5.

Trim any excess wallpaper.

Final smoothing. For proper adhesion, perform additional smoothing after 2 days and again after 2 weeks to ensure longevity.

Looking After Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

How do I care for peel-and-stick wallpaper?

It's simple! To keep your peel-and-stick wallpaper looking fresh, we recommend you inspect it for signs of wear and tear every 6 months. Clean off any dirt and marks as soon as you see them. Dust over your wallpaper regularly with a dry cloth or duster.

Take a look at our Installation and Care Guide for full details.

Can I clean peel-and-stick wallpaper?

In most cases, your peel-and-stick wallpaper can be cleaned with a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge that has been dampened with water. Make sure that all water is squeezed from the cloth or sponge and gently wipe the affected area until clean, applying minimal pressure.

In case of deeper stains, soapy water on a soft, non-abrasive sponge can be used. Gently wipe at the affected area, being sure not to rub with too much force so as not to damage the design.

Take a look at our Installation and Care Guide for full details.

Can I put peel-and-stick wallpaper near sources of direct heat or sunlight?

Our peel-and-stick wallpaper is designed for indoor use only.

Avoid installing it in rooms with glass roofs or walls exposed to persistent direct sunlight to prevent excessive fading.

It's suitable for kitchens and bathrooms, but ensure surfaces are clean and grease-free before application.

Avoid placement near direct heat or open flames, like the backsplash to a stovetop.

Take a look at our Installation and Care Guide for full details.

Removing Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

How do I remove peel-and-stick wallpaper?
  1. Choose a Starting Point: Begin at a corner or seam where you can grip the wallpaper edge securely.
  2. Peel Away the Wallpaper: Gently and slowly peel back the wallpaper at a 45-degree angle, taking care to avoid overstretching.
  3. Apply Heat (Optional): If the wallpaper is resistant, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the area. Do not tug too hard as this can lead to paint damage underneath the wallpaper.
  4. Scrape and Remove: As you peel, gently use a plastic scraper to lift and loosen the wallpaper, working downwards in small sections.
  5. Eliminate Any Adhesive Residue: Although rare, in some instances a small amount of residue may remain. After removing the wallpaper, clean any remaining adhesive by gently scrubbing with warm, soapy water and a sponge or cloth.

Take a look at our Installation and Care Guide for full details.

Will peel-and-stick wallpaper come off in one piece?

Of course! Huggleberry Hill's peel-and-stick wallpaper has a thick woven texture that is easily removed in one piece.

Will removing peel-and-stick wallpaper damage the walls?

When properly installed on smooth, clean, and well-prepped surfaces, removing our peel-and-stick wallpaper should not damage your walls.

For best results, we recommend using a wallpaper primer before application and gently heating the wallpaper with a hairdryer when removing it to loosen the adhesive. This helps ensure easy, damage-free removal.

However, we cannot guarantee results on walls with pre-existing issues like loose paint or poor surface preparation.

Can I recycle my peel-and-stick wallpaper?

We're delighted to inform you that our wallpaper is crafted sustainably from part-recycled polyester and is entirely recyclable at your local recycling facility.

The packaging it arrived in and its paper backing are also recyclable at home.
